In recent years, painting about connectedness with the land has become a part of my art practice. I have an ongoing series of landscapes created using paper and thick paint. The beginning point is often a photograph I’ve taken during travel. This is one of a place seen on a trip to Italy. My imagination takes over within the paintings and soon becomes an amalgam of memory and exploration. The mood is joyful and becomes a space for both nostalgia and hope. Collage elements include a vintage Golden Book Encyclopedia page, map legend, polka dot papers, Bible pages, a hymn fragment, and a vintage dictionary page.

• This standard size makes it easy to find a ready-made frame. It has a protective varnish so doesn’t need to be covered in glass. If you do use glass, it should have a mat so the surface doesn't touch the glass and adhere.
